About this work
This etching depicts a broad, spreading tree growing from a rocky outcrop above a shallow stream, with its roots gripping the stone. A cluster of rustic buildings sits on the far bank, and a figure leads a horse along a path on the right. The engraved hatching builds up foliage, water and rock in fine, dense lines.
