Antonie Waterloo built his name almost entirely on drawings, and he was among the first artists to do so. He is thought to have been born in Lille in 1609, and no record of any training has been found. He had little success selling his paintings and seems to have lived on art dealing and on his drawings and prints. In Maarssen, where he lived for about twenty years, his friend Jan Weenix often visited to add animals to his landscapes. His many etchings carried his influence as far as the French Barbizon painters, and he died in Utrecht in 1690. Browse 227 works by Anthonie Waterloo from 17 museums, free to download in HD.
