About this work

This engraved town view shows a classical town hall with a row of columns and a triangular pediment, set on a cobbled square. Several pedestrians, including a woman with a child, stroll in front of the building, and the street recedes to the right between plain residential houses. The caption beneath reads Das Rathhaus gegen die Spitalgasse with a French counterpart, and the handwritten word Neuchatel marks the location. The print is attributed to David Alois Schmid.
