About this work
A painted battle scene shows cavalry in dark blue and red uniforms charging across a grassy slope while artillery pieces fire from the lower left. A mounted group of officers in white and grey horses observes the action from a rise on the right under a heavy grey sky. The work is attributed to Paul Émile Léon Perboyre and is titled Napoléon donne l'ordre d'assaut à Iéna le 14 octobre 1806, according to an inscription on the back of the panel.
