About this work
An oil sketch shows a group of mounted cavalry soldiers in dark and gold uniforms with tall fur caps and red plumes, one officer raising a sabre as the troop charges across a sunlit, open field. Painted in loose, quick brushwork under a pale blue sky with scattered clouds, the work is attributed to Paul Émile Léon Perboyre and its title refers to Marshal Augereau at the Battle of Jena on 14 October 1806.
