About this work

A hand-colored caricature shows a thin, bewigged man in a blue coat being pulled along by a stout woman in a pink dress, blue skirt and plumed hat, who holds a green fan and looks upward with an air of disdain. Onlookers on a street and a figure leaning from an upper window watch the scene beside a building with an inn sign reading 'The Old Swan, Ordinary on Sundays'. The print is credited to Thomas Rowlandson, dated 1807, and carries the title 'A Nincompoop, or Hen Peck'd Husband'.
