About this work
A hand-coloured satirical print shows two men seated at a wooden table in a sparsely furnished room, one elderly man in a red cap and green coat gesturing with his hand while the other rests his chin on his fist. A candle, blue books, a lattice window, and a handwritten list of stock and lottery terms hang on the wall. The work is by Thomas Rowlandson, dated 1811, and is titled A Picture of Misery.
