About this work
This etching shows a calm pond bordered by tall reeds and dense trees on both sides, with a small roofed cottage visible in the distance beyond the water. Fine, dense hatching renders the foliage and reflections, while the open sky is left mostly light. The print is titled Shere Mill Pond, no. 1 (small plate), by Francis Seymour Haden, dated 1860.
