About this work

A crowded outdoor racecourse scene shows spectators gathered around tables, booths, and tents, with men in coats and hats and women in long gowns mingling among them. Horses and riders move across the open ground toward a small judges' or viewing stand, while a grandstand with a large tent and a painted banner rises at right. This 1799 print by Thomas Rowlandson, from a set of six racing scenes, is held by Wikimedia Commons.
