About this work
A hand-coloured satirical etching shows a line of well-dressed men led forward by a banner of inscriptions, while hooded witches stir a fiery cauldron among scattered pamphlets. Flying demons, a green dragon, and a devil with a trident fill the smoky background, and speech scrolls carry caricatured remarks. The print is by Thomas Rowlandson and dated 1799.
