About this work

This two-panel etching is a satirical caricature by Thomas Rowlandson, dated 1789. The upper panel shows a richly dressed minister bending over a Treasury Pot filled with coins while a woman clings to him and a horned beast looms beside him, with figures labeled The World and The Times nearby. The lower panel, titled Doctor Last's Examination, shows a crowded room of spectators around a table with a seated figure and a speaker in a wig.
