About this work

Two side-by-side capricci show ruined classical architecture set in open ground. The left panel features a triumphal-style arch with a pedimented top and a distant church spire, while the right panel shows a collapsed portico with columns and an arched opening that frames a glimpse of water. Small figures in period dress are scattered among the ruins, which are partly overgrown with plants.
