About this work
A hand-coloured aquatint shows a grand banquet hall with long tables set for a formal dinner, where crowds of men in dark coats and white breeches stand and sit beside women in bonnets and gowns. Tall columns, a coffered ceiling, two chandeliers, and a pipe organ frame the scene, while gilt-framed portraits hang along the walls. The print, titled Freemasons Hall, Great Queen Street, is by Thomas Rowlandson and dated 1808.
