About this work

A hand-coloured print shows a hunting party gathering in a village street beneath large trees, with riders in blue coats and a pack of hounds milling around their horses. Thatched cottages, a inn with a sign reading Wild Whistle, and women working at a washtub frame the scene. This is the first print in Thomas Rowlandson's four-part fox-hunting set, published in London in 1801.
