About this work
This engraved print, dated 1807 and after a painting by Francisco Goya, shows a saint in a dark habit raising a crucifix toward a dying man in bed. Grinning demonic figures crowd the bedside beneath a curtain, while a round window and a distant city appear in the background. The Spanish caption below describes the crucifix confirming, with its blood, the reprobation of a dying, unrepentant sinner.
