About this work
This woodcut depicts the Betrayal of Christ, with a central bearded figure surrounded by armed soldiers holding halberds, spears and swords. A man in a fur-trimmed cap and slashed doublet stands at left, while a soldier sprawls on the ground at lower right beside a helmet. The dense crosshatched lines and the tree and distant landscape at upper right are characteristic of the work, which is dated 1510 and is attributed to Albrecht Dürer.
