Thomas Moran

In 1871, Thomas Moran spent forty days with the Hayden Geological Survey in the Yellowstone region. His sketches and William Henry Jackson's photographs helped persuade Congress to make it the first national park in 1872. Moran was born in Bolton, England, and his family moved to the United States when he was seven. He started as a teenage apprentice at a Philadelphia wood-engraving firm and later became chief illustrator for Scribner's Monthly. Yellowstone stayed with him, and he even signed his work T-Y-M, for Thomas "Yellowstone" Moran. Browse 129 works by Thomas Moran from 26 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
