Theo van Hoytema left work at a financial firm because office life didn't suit him. At the Royal Academy of Art he drew the stuffed animals at the natural history museum in Leiden. His uncle at Brill Publishers then got him his first jobs doing scientific illustrations. His first picture book about birds was a success, and in 1893 he illustrated The Ugly Duckling. Later, ill and living with his sister in The Hague, he made the calendars that made him famous. Browse 394 works by Theo van Hoytema from 2 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
