Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert

Schelte a Bolswert spent most of his career in Antwerp, engraving prints after Rubens and Van Dyck. He came from the town of Bolswert in Friesland and learned printmaking from his older brother Boetius. The two moved to Amsterdam and later to Antwerp, where they worked for the Plantin Press. When Boetius died in 1633, Rubens took Schelte on in his place. The painter sometimes retouched his proofs, and Schelte kept engraving Rubens's work after the painter died in 1640.
