Botticelli spent his whole life in one Florence neighbourhood, near the street still called Borgo Ognissanti. He trained with Fra Filippo Lippi and was running his own workshop by the time Lippi died. In 1481 Pope Sixtus IV called him to Rome to paint frescoes on the walls of the newly finished Sistine Chapel. The 1480s were his most successful decade, when he completed Primavera and The Birth of Venus, both now in the Uffizi. His reputation suffered after his death until the Pre-Raphaelites rediscovered him in the late 19th century. Browse 86 works by Sandro Botticelli from 39 museums, free to download in HD.
