Salvator Rosa painted wild landscapes, often with bandits hiding among the rocks. He was born on the outskirts of Naples in 1615 and later worked in Rome and Florence. His biting satires earned him enemies, and at times he had to move between cities. He refused to agree on a price beforehand, and he chose his own subjects. He died in Rome in 1673, and in the late 18th century British Romantic painters took him up as a hero. Browse 139 works by Salvator Rosa from 37 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
