Reinier van Persijn

Reinier van Persijn's motto, Het moet al in een pers zijn, means "It must already be in print" and plays on his own name. Born in Alkmaar in 1615, he engraved portraits and bookplates. He studied with Cornelis Bloemaert and learned to make book title pages from Theodor Matham. In Rome he belonged to the Bentvueghels, who gave him the nickname Narcissus. He settled in Gouda in 1645 because his wife was born there, and he later died in the same town. Browse 134 works by Reinier van Persijn from 2 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
