In 1508 Raphael moved to Rome at the invitation of Pope Julius II, and he stayed there for the rest of his life. He grew up in Urbino, where his father Giovanni Santi was court painter, and he was orphaned at eleven. In Rome he painted the frescoed rooms of the Vatican Palace, and The School of Athens is his best known work. He ran an unusually large workshop and also worked as an architect. He died in Rome in 1520, aged 37. Browse 116 works by Raphael from 39 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
