Nicolaes de Bruyn

Nicolaes de Bruyn learned engraving from his uncle, the engraver Abraham de Bruyn, in Antwerp. He didn't follow his teacher's style or the size of his plates, and seems to have formed his own style from the work of Lucas van Leyden. Born in Antwerp in 1571, he later moved to the Dutch Republic and worked in Rotterdam from 1617. He finished his plates neatly with the burin and signed them with his initials N. de B. or with a monogram. He died in Rotterdam in 1656.
