Melchior Küsel worked as an engraver in Augsburg, the city where he was born in 1626. Houbraken writes that he made 24 engravings of the Passion of Christ after Johann Wilhelm Baur, and a series after Ovid. The RKD says he also illustrated Bibles. He was probably the brother of the engraver Mathäus Küsel, and his daughter Johanna Sibylla married his pupil, the engraver Johann Ulrich Kraus.
