In 1881 Max Klinger published Paraphrase on the Finding of a Glove, a set of etchings that made his name. The pictures came from dreams he had after finding a glove at an ice-skating rink. Born in Leipzig, he studied in Karlsruhe and Berlin and later lived in Paris and Rome. Over the years sculpture came to dominate his output. His Beethoven mixes bronze, ivory, alabaster and marble and stood at the centre of the Vienna Secession exhibition in 1902. Browse 295 works by Max Klinger from 14 museums, free to download in HD.
