In 1877 both of Mary Cassatt's entries to the Paris Salon were rejected, and Edgar Degas invited her to show with the Impressionists. Born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, she lived most of her adult life in France and was the only American officially associated with the group. Degas introduced her to etching, and she became very skilled with pastels. Her pictures often show the private lives of women, especially the bonds between mothers and children. After 1900 she worked almost only on mother-and-child subjects. Browse 147 works by Mary Cassatt from 26 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
