Magnus Enckell went to Paris in 1891 and studied at the Académie Julian, where he was drawn to the Symbolist movement. He was born in Hamina, a small town in southeastern Finland, and his early paintings used a subdued palette. From 1902 onwards his colours grew brighter, and he founded the Septem group with Verner Thomé and Ellen Thesleff. For Tampere Cathedral he painted the altarpiece, a fresco more than 10 metres wide. He died of pneumonia in Stockholm in 1925, while he was hosting his own exhibition there. Browse 119 works by Magnus Enckell from 6 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
