Lucas van Leyden's earliest known print dates from 1508, when he was perhaps only 14. He was the son of the painter Huygh Jacobsz and was mainly active in Leiden, the town where he was born and died. Karel van Mander wrote that as a child he worked long hours after dark, and his mother forbade it. He was a printmaker in engraving and woodcut, and among the first Dutch painters of genre scenes. Albrecht Dürer drew his portrait when they met in 1521. Browse 402 works by Lucas van Leyden from 19 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
