Louis Haghe found his first work in lithography when the first press was set up in Tournai, his birthplace. He settled in England for good in 1823. Around 1830 he and William Day formed Day & Haghe, which became the best-known early Victorian lithographic printing firm in London. He made 250 images for David Roberts's book on the Holy Land and Egypt, and John Ruskin called the work 'forced'. Later he turned more to watercolours of northern European buildings, though he'd had a deformity in his right hand since birth. Browse 143 works by Louis Haghe from 7 museums, free to download in HD.
