Born in Paris in 1836, Jules Chéret began an apprenticeship with a lithographer at thirteen. He later trained in London for seven years and was strongly influenced by the British approach to poster design. Back in France, he made posters for music halls and theatres such as the Folies Bergère and the Moulin Rouge. His lively women, popularly called 'Cherettes', were seen all over Paris. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 and died in Nice at the age of ninety-six. Browse 1,446 works by Jules Chéret from 11 museums, free to download in HD.
