Johann Theodor de Bry took over his family's printing house after his father died in 1598. He had trained as an engraver under his father, Dirk de Bry, and signed his prints J. T. B. or with a monogram. Later he moved the firm from Frankfurt to Oppenheim, where it printed books by Robert Fludd and Michael Maier. Many of the firm's books carried engravings by his son-in-law Matthäus Merian. After Oppenheim was captured in 1620, de Bry moved the press back to Frankfurt and died there in 1623.
