For a long time, Jean-Robert Ango's drawings were credited to Hubert Robert, and Ango often signed them "Roberti." He was already working in Rome by 1760, drawing copies of paintings and sculptures in its churches and palaces. All of his surviving work is drawings, and no original composition by him is known. In his final years in Rome a stroke left him half-paralyzed, and he lived on charity and begged in the streets. Four of his albums, holding 151 red chalk drawings, are now at the Smithsonian's design museum in New York. Browse 121 works by Jean-Robert Ango from 2 museums, free to download in HD.
