Eager crowds gathered at Hannah Humphrey's shop window in London to look at James Gillray's prints. Humphrey was his publisher, and he lived with her through the whole period of his fame. His etched satires mocked George III and Napoleon. He has been called the father of the political cartoon. His eyesight began to fail in 1806, and Humphrey looked after him until his death in London in 1815. Browse 288 works by James Gillray from 6 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
