Many houses on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam still have door or ceiling paintings by Jacob de Wit, who lived on that canal. He trained with Albert van Spiers in Amsterdam and Jacob van Hal in Antwerp, where he joined the Guild of St. Luke in 1714. In Antwerp he made watercolour sketches of the Rubens ceilings in the Carolus Borromeuskerk. Lightning struck the church in 1718, and his sketches became a record of ceilings that were lost. His pupil Jan Punt engraved them and published them in 1751. Browse 145 works by Jacob de Wit from 17 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
