Israhel van Meckenem made over 620 engravings, and most of them were copies of other artists' prints. He probably trained with Master E. S. and later reworked forty-one of that engraver's plates. His earliest dated print is from 1465 and was made in Cleves. He returned to Bocholt by about 1480 and stayed there for the rest of his life, still working as a goldsmith. A print of him with his wife Ida is the first self-portrait in a print, and he was buried in Bocholt's Georgskirche. Browse 175 works by Israhel van Meckenem from 7 museums, free to download in HD.
