Israël Silvestre
170 works
For about twenty years, Israel Silvestre travelled widely and sketched as he went, and he visited Italy three times.
Later he worked those sketches up as etchings of famous buildings, sold singly and in series. His Venetian views from the 1660s were adapted by Canaletto and Luca Carlevaris. In 1662 he was appointed draughtsman and engraver to the King, and later he had workshop space in the galleries of the Louvre. He died in Paris in 1691 and left his sons more than a thousand engravings. Browse 170 works by Israël Silvestre from 8 museums, free to download in HD.
