Guido Reni began as an apprentice in a Bologna studio at the age of nine. In Rome he worked for the Borghese family and painted the fresco Aurora. He returned to Bologna for good after 1614 and set up two studios there with nearly 200 pupils. He was a compulsive gambler, and his biographer Malvasia says the need to win back losses led to rushed work and copies made by his workshop. He died in Bologna in 1642 and was buried in the Basilica of San Domenico. Browse 128 works by Guido Reni from 45 museums, free to download in HD.
