Most of Giuseppe Barberi's buildings stayed on paper, though his sketchbooks show he was constantly designing projects of every description. Born in Rome, he first trained as a silversmith under Luigi Valadier. He sympathised with the revolutionary ideology and was appointed architect to the Roman Republic. In 1798 he designed a temporary triumphal arch near the Ponte Sant'Angelo for the Festa della Federazione. After the republic fell he fled to France, and he returned to Rome in 1806, where he died three years later. Browse 290 works by Giuseppe Barberi from 2 museums, free to download in HD.
