Giorgio Ghisi made prints in Mantua and Rome, then in Antwerp and France. From 1550 he engraved for Hieronymus Cock's print house in Antwerp, starting with a two-plate copy of Raphael's School of Athens. He mostly copied paintings by Italian artists but often added landscapes of his own. He also decorated armour, and a parade shield signed and dated 1554 is now in the British Museum. Late in life he kept the jewels and the wardrobe for the Gonzaga family in Mantua, and he died on 15 December 1582. Browse 160 works by Giorgio Ghisi from 10 museums, free to download in HD.
