Gérard Edelinck left Antwerp for Paris in 1666 and worked there for the rest of his life. He had trained in Antwerp under the engravers Gaspar Huybrechts and Cornelius Galle the Younger. In Paris he went on to study with François de Poilly, Robert Nanteuil and Philippe de Champaigne. On Le Brun's recommendation he taught at the academy of the Gobelins manufactory, and in 1677 he joined the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture with his portrait of Champaigne. He engraved many portraits of people of his time, among them Colbert, La Fontaine, Descartes and John Dryden. Browse 202 works by Gerard Edelinck from 10 museums, free to download in HD.
