George Elbert Burr's only formal art training was a few months at the Chicago Academy of Design. He worked in his father's hardware store in Cameron, Missouri, and drew illustrations for magazines such as Harper's and Scribner's. After an attack of the flu he moved to Denver for his health. Summers in a cabin studio in a wooded canyon with views of the Rocky Mountains led to the etchings and drypoints of the West that made him famous. In 1924 he settled in Phoenix, Arizona, and added the Sonoran and Mojave deserts to his work. Browse 162 works by George Elbert Burr from 2 museums, free to download in HD.
