Friedrich von Schmidt

Friedrich von Schmidt spent fifteen years as a guild worker on Cologne Cathedral, and he made most of the working drawings for its towers with Vincenz Statz. He later went to Milan as a professor of architecture, but the war of 1859 sent him to Vienna. There he became cathedral architect and restored St. Stephen's Cathedral, taking down the spire and rebuilding it. He also designed Vienna's Town Hall, with a central tower that rises to 100 metres. A bronze statue of him stands in front of it, and he died in Vienna in 1891. Browse 334 works by Friedrich von Schmidt from 2 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
