In 1552 Étienne Delaune, then a goldsmith in Paris, was appointed to the royal mint. He left after six months over a dispute about wages, but the job had linked him to the French court and king. Those links brought royal commissions for armour, medals and other metalwork. He also made many small prints cut entirely with the graver, after Raphael and the Fontainebleau masters, and after designs by his son Jean. He spent much of his life with Jean at Strassburg, and he usually marked his prints with an S. Browse 144 works by Etienne Delaune from 8 museums, free to download in HD.
