Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki

Daniel Chodowiecki made several thousand etchings, most of them quite small, and they show middle-class life of his time in great detail. He was born in Danzig in 1726 and went to live with his uncle in Berlin at 16 after his father died. He joined the Berlin Academy and became its director in 1797. He's credited with inventing the deliberate remarque, a small sketch outside the main image that he turned into a bonus for collectors. He died in Berlin in 1801 and is buried in the Französischer Friedhof cemetery. Browse 377 works by Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki from 13 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
