His father wanted a lawyer, so Carel Nicolaas Storm van 's-Gravesande studied law at the University of Leiden and graduated in 1865.
Three years later he defied his family and moved to Brussels, where Félicien Rops taught him etching. He made more than 400 etchings, mostly landscapes and cityscapes, and co-founded the Dutch Etching Club with Willem Witsen. He settled in The Hague in 1893 and became a member of the Hague School. He kept travelling, with stays in Paris, Wiesbaden, Cologne and Berlin. Browse 250 works by Carel Nicolaas Storm van 's-Gravesande from 4 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
