Bernard Picart grew up on rue Saint-Jacques in Paris and later took over the workshop of his father, the engraver Etienne Picart. After his wife and children died, he moved to The Hague in 1710 and soon settled in Amsterdam. There he married Anna Vincent, joined the guild and opened an engraving school. Most of his work was book illustration, and his best-known project is Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde, a record of the world's religious rituals made with the publisher Jean Frédéric Bernard. He was buried in the Walloon Church in Amsterdam in 1733. Browse 772 works by Bernard Picart from 12 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
