Auguste Danse

For years Auguste Danse earned his living from commercial work, designing stained glass windows and playing cards and engraving copper cylinders in a textile factory. He lost the factory job when the American Civil War made cotton hard to get. After that he gave himself entirely to engraving and made copies of the old Dutch Masters. In 1871 he began teaching drawing at the art academy in Mons, and he helped set up an engraving school there. Later he turned to painting sea scenes and landscapes, and he died in Uccle shortly after his hundredth birthday in 1929. Browse 123 works by Auguste Danse from 2 museums, free to download in HD.
