Anton Mauve painted peasants working in the fields and flocks of sheep, and American buyers paid different prices for "sheep coming" and "sheep going." He was born in Zaandam and grew up in Haarlem. In 1872 he settled in The Hague, where he became a leading member of the Hague School. His wife's cousin Vincent van Gogh made his first experiments in painting in Mauve's studio at the end of 1881, but the two later parted ways. Mauve spent his last two years in the village of Laren and died suddenly in Arnhem in 1888. Browse 124 works by Anton Mauve from 17 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
