Aegidius Sadeler II

From 1597 Aegidius Sadeler worked in Prague as court engraver to Emperor Rudolf II. He came from a family of print dealers and engravers in Antwerp, where his uncle Jan trained him. In Prague he engraved portraits of court notables and made prints after paintings by Spranger and Arcimboldo. After Rudolf died, the emperors Matthias and Ferdinand II kept him in their favour. He died in Prague in 1629, and his pupils included Wenzel Hollar and Joachim von Sandrart, who wrote his biography. Browse 116 works by Aegidius Sadeler II from 5 museums, free to download in HD.
